While attention has focused on Meghan Markle’s reported return to acting, Queen Camilla was quietly close to making a television appearance of her own.

The Queen nearly landed a cameo in the hit comedy series Only Murders in the Building, according to executive producer and showrunner John Hoffman. The surprising possibility emerged as the Emmy-winning series moved its sixth season to London and assembled an unusually star-packed British cast.

Hoffman revealed the behind-the-scenes story in an interview with Vulture, admitting that the production had genuinely come close to securing Camilla for a role.

“We almost got [Camilla], know it’s insane, but yes, there was a moment,” Hoffman said.

He recalled being stunned when he first learned that an appearance by the Queen might actually be possible.

“I was like, ‘Wait, what? Is that real?’” he said.

In the end, however, the idea never made it to the screen.

Why Queen Camilla’s cameo never happened

The obstacle was not a lack of interest but the practical realities of filming in Britain.

Hoffman explained that UK union rules restrict productions to 10-hour filming days. Bringing Camilla onto the set would therefore have required additional planning around an already demanding production schedule.

“It was going to be a whole thing,” Hoffman explained.

With the logistics becoming increasingly complicated, the production ultimately abandoned the idea of having the Queen appear.

The revelation comes as Only Murders in the Building prepares for one of its biggest changes yet. For Season 6, the series leaves New York behind and takes its central trio — Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez — to London for a new mystery.

Disney+ has confirmed that the sixth season, titled Only Murders in London in its UK promotion, will premiere on December 8, 2026. The new story follows Charles, Oliver and Mabel as they investigate another murder after Cinda Canning becomes the latest victim.

The London setting has also allowed the show to bring in a remarkable collection of British and Irish talent, including David Tennant, Nicola Coughlan, Jodie Whittaker, Jim Broadbent and Richard Ayoade.

Olivia Colman, Martin Freeman and Geri Halliwell are also among the high-profile names associated with the new season.

Against that backdrop, a royal cameo might have seemed perfectly suited to the show’s British chapter.

Camilla has already stepped into the world of television

Although viewers will not see Queen Camilla in Only Murders in the Building — at least for now — she is hardly unfamiliar with the world of television production.

In December 2025, Camilla visited the set of Rivals in Bristol, paying tribute to her late friend Dame Jilly Cooper, whose novel inspired the Disney+ series.

During that visit, Camilla spoke warmly about the show and revealed that she had watched the first season while recovering from pneumonia.

“I promise you, I binge-watched it and felt much better afterwards,” she told members of the cast, according to reports at the time.

Her connection to Rivals was particularly personal because of her friendship with Cooper, who died in October 2025 at the age of 88. Camilla had known the celebrated author for decades and visited the production as filming for its second season continued.

During the visit, the Queen also expressed her sadness that Cooper was no longer there to see the adaptation.

“It’s so sad that she’s not here. She should be,” Camilla told the cast, adding that her friend “would have loved it.”

Meghan’s reported acting return adds another royal television twist

The revelation about Camilla comes at an intriguing moment for the Royal Family’s relationship with television.

Meghan Markle has recently been linked to a possible acting return, with reports that she is in early discussions over a role in the third season of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen.

However, no deal has been confirmed, meaning Meghan’s potential comeback remains uncertain.

That makes Camilla’s near-miss with Only Murders in the Building an especially unusual footnote in the current royal television story.

One royal woman is reportedly considering a return to scripted television, while another nearly found herself appearing in one of the year’s most anticipated London-set productions.
