King Charles was a big hit at the Commonwealth Games this year, arriving alongside Queen Camilla at Glasgow’s Hydro for the opening ceremony inside Doctor Who’s famous TARDIS.

Given the rip-roaring success of his appearance at the sporting event, it’s understandable that his son, Prince Harry, would like the King to appear at the Invictus Games in Birmingham next year.

Prince Harry is patron and founder of the Invictus Games and is heavily invested in their success. The Daily Mail states that it would “mean the world” to the duke for his father to be by his side, with the paper reporting that Prince Harry wants the King to attend either the opening or closing ceremony, as well as some of the sporting events during the games.

A source described the event as a “big deal” for the Duke of Sussex, explaining that he is determined to make the Birmingham Games the best to date and would love the support of his father.

A slow reconciliation

This fresh hope comes after Prince Harry and King Charles met up during the former’s visit to the UK this summer, which saw Prince Harry travel to King Charles’ Gloucestershire home, Highgrove House.

While he was there, he was hosted by the monarch and Queen Camilla, and was joined by Meghan, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. They reportedly spent over an hour together – an improvement on their last meeting, which saw Prince Harry visit Clarence House for tea with his father, leaving after less than an hour.

Prior to this rendezvous, the duke last saw his father for a 45-minute meeting at Clarence House in February 2024, after he made a transatlantic dash from his Californian home to the UK to see his father following his cancer diagnosis.

Prince Harry’s hopes for a future with his father

The Duke of Sussex has spoken openly and publicly about his hopes to reunite with his family, most notably in a BBC interview in May 2025.

The father-of-two spoke of his hopes to reconcile with the family, sharing: “I would love reconciliation with my family; there’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has; he won’t speak to me because of this security stuff.”

However, he added that any reconciliation would be in his family’s hands, adding: “If they don’t want that, that’s entirely up to them.”

Luckily for Prince Harry, the relationship does seem to be thawing, with positive steps being made each time he returns to the UK. Here’s hoping His Royal Highness will be up for a visit to Birmingham next summer…
