Earl Spencer Announces Upcoming Memoir Swan Song: Diana, My Sister Ahead of 30th Anniversary
Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer and younger brother of the late Princess Diana, has announced the upcoming publication of a deeply personal and candid new book titled Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, set for release on September 22, 2026.
A Definitive Account from an Intimate Perspective
Published by Penguin Random House (Penguin Michael Joseph), the book marks the first time Earl Spencer has spoken openly and at length about his sister’s life and the tragic circumstances surrounding her death in August 1997.
With the approaching 30th anniversary of Diana’s passing, Spencer noted that a continuous influx of interview requests and repeated inaccuracies published over the decades prompted him to set the record straight:
“This has convinced me to write down my own thoughts and memories, once and for all, rather than having the discomfort of again reading the opinions of others, many of which are based on untruths that have become accepted over time… The aim of this book is to tell the truth about Diana from her brother’s perspective, just as I attempted to do when speaking at her funeral.”
What to Expect from Swan Song
Publishing executives have described the work as a historical and deeply intimate account that captures Diana’s complex character—highlighting her charisma, warmth, and humanity, while also addressing the intense pressures she faced. The book is promised to contain significant revelations and candid reflections, serving as a definitive tribute from her closest family member nearly three decades after her death.
