The personal life of Rory McIlroy has come under intense scrutiny in recent years, particularly surrounding his marriage to his wife, Erica Stoll. Divorce speculation resurfaced amid the 2026 Masters Tournament at Augusta National this weekend as the Northern Irish golfer claimed his second Masters title.
In addition to divorce speculation, cheating rumors also came back up to the surface at the tournament. What began as a relatively private relationship has evolved into one of the most talked-about personal storylines in the global golf community at the current time. Fueled by a brief divorce filing, widespread speculation, and persistent cheating rumors that have circulated in the media, there is much to know about the marital turmoil and current status of McIlroy’s relationship with Stoll.

Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll married in 2017 after meeting through the PGA of America when Stoll worked for the PGA Tour. They were originally viewed as one of golf’s more grounded couples, but that began to change a few years ago when McIlroy filed for divorce from Stoll citing irreconcilable differences. He later went on to claim that his marriage was “irretrievably broken” per The Telegraph.
The divorce filing came as a shock to fans and the sports world, especially given the couple’s recent welcoming of their daughter, Poppy, just a few years prior. However, the pair have largely kept their relationship out of the spotlight, so what fans haven’t seen is quite a significant portion of their love story.

Following the divorce filing by McIlroy, a whirlwind of speculation arose. Within weeks of the filing, rumors began to emerge suggesting possible infedility – with some reports linking McIlroy to CBS golf reporter Amanda Balionis. While no concrete confirmation of an affair ever surfaced, the timing of the rumors alongside the divorce filing fueled public intrigue and media attention.
Some analysts and observers believe that there’s been evidence leaked to fuel the rumors. For instance a 2025 photo shows the pair cozied up in a close hug out on the green, a photograph which has done little to silence the rumors. Other reports and speculations allege leaked text messages between McIlroy and Balionis, though none have ever been fully traced back to the pair in a firm announcement of infidelity.
McIlroy ultimately dropped the divorce filing in 2024 after just a month, and at the 2026 Masters Tournament he and his wife seemed to be enjoying time together with their daughter even as resurfaced divorce speculation swirled around them. For now, though, the pair remain married and have continued to keep their marriage as quiet as possible, but the leaked images of McIlroy and Balionis still linger.
