After years of waiting, one of the UK’s most gripping cyber thrillers has finally returned, picking up exactly where its jaw-dropping cliffhanger left off. But just as viewers settled back in, a surprise change to the release schedule has everyone asking the same question. Why has the schedule changed—and when can fans watch the remaining episodes?

The Undeclared War release schedule for season two as Simon Pegg drama continues

Despite the large gap between season one and season two, the second series picked up on Channel 4 exactly where the first one left off.

The Wales-filmed Cyber thriller is about a leading team of analysts in GCHQ secretly working to ward off a series of cyber-attacks on the UK in post-pandemic 2024.

The drama follows Simon’s character, Danny Patrick, the GCHQ Director of Operations. The first season was filled with cyber warfare, political intrigue, and high-stakes espionage. In 2022, it ended on a cliffhanger after satellite imagery showed an unidentified aircraft entering British airspace.

Season two has picked up where season one left off but has focused on Danny and his wife, Barbara Patrick, played by Siân Brooke. She is ex-MI5 and now an analyst at GCHQ.

Throughout the second season, their relationship has formed the emotional backbone of the story as each contends with major personal and professional conflicts that set them on a collision course.

Speaking about the themes in season two, which also stars Hannah Khalique-Brown, Alex Jennings, Danny Sapani, Ed Stoppard and Chloe Pirrie, Simon said: “As always, we’re dealing with international intrigue. Cyber warfare is the new frontline.

“When you watch the news and see a physical attack, an explosion or a terrorist incident, you witness the consequences. What you don’t see is what’s happening in cyberspace, even though the level of aggression can be comparable. That’s one of the central themes of the show.

“There are also themes of secrecy and subterfuge, both in the work taking place on the floor of the EMC and in the personal lives of the characters. It’s about what you see on the surface and what’s really going on underneath.”
