Abby Lee Miller Drops Claims Against Two Doctors and Retracts Malpractice Allegations

Abby Lee Miller has dismissed two doctors from a medical malpractice lawsuit she filed in 2025, acknowledging that neither physician was responsible for the incident at the center of her claims.

The former Dance Moms star, 60, announced on Monday, Aug. 24, that Hooman Melamed and Paul Dwan were no longer defendants in the case.

In a statement, Miller expressly recognized that the two doctors were not at fault for a catheter she alleges remained inside her body following a 2020 medical procedure at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

Miller acknowledges doctors were not responsible

Melamed and Dwan have consistently denied negligence or wrongdoing in connection with Miller’s treatment.

As part of the resolution, Miller agreed to withdraw previous public remarks criticizing the doctors and the medical care they provided.

“Dr. Melamed and Dr. Dwan have consistently denied any negligence or fault in connection with Ms. Miller’s care,” the statement said.

It continued: “As part of the resolution, Ms. Miller expressly acknowledges that neither Dr. Melamed or Dr. Dwan are at fault for the retained foreign object.”

The statement also said Miller had agreed to apologize and retract any previous comments that disparaged either doctor or questioned their treatment of her.

Her earlier claims that Melamed or Dwan had left the catheter inside her body were described as having been “made without factual bases.” The statement emphasized that those allegations should no longer be repeated or treated as reliable.

Miller apologizes for harm caused by her statements

Miller issued a direct apology to both physicians for the consequences of the lawsuit and her previous public accusations.

“Ms. Miller apologizes to Dr. Melamed and Dr. Dwan for any distress this lawsuit has caused, as well as the reputational harm and emotional impact caused by Ms. Miller’s false and defamatory statements,” the statement read.

She also withdrew all prior negative comments made by her or on her behalf concerning the doctors’ care.

“Ms. Miller expressly acknowledges that any negative past statements made by or on behalf of her regarding the care and treatment provided by Dr. Melamed or Dr. Dwan are retracted and should not be relied upon or repeated by her or anyone acting on her behalf,” the statement said.

Original lawsuit alleged years of abdominal pain

Miller filed the lawsuit in 2025, alleging that she experienced abdominal pain after undergoing an otherwise successful, life-saving spinal operation in 2020.

According to the complaint, Miller repeatedly told members of her medical team about the pain but claimed her concerns were dismissed.

The lawsuit alleged that the cause was not discovered until a CT scan revealed a catheter inside her body.

Doctors subsequently conducted an emergency procedure to remove the object, according to the filing.

The complaint described it as “a retained catheter left inside Plaintiff’s body from the prior surgeries.”

Lawsuit reportedly remains active

Although Melamed and Dwan have been dismissed from the case, the lawsuit still appears to be ongoing.

Cedars-Sinai Marina Hospital remains listed as a defendant. The action seeks $1.4 million and includes allegations of medical negligence, professional negligence and medical battery, among other claims.

When the lawsuit was filed, Miller’s attorney, Nadine Lewis, said her client had endured years of pain connected to an object allegedly left inside her during spinal surgery.

“Abby Lee Miller suffered for years from an object left inside of her during spinal surgery; despite complaints to various physicians, not one ordered imaging of any kind to diagnose the source of her pain,” Lewis said at the time.

“Rather, they systemically dismissed her chronic pain and let her suffer for years.”

Miller’s latest statement withdraws her allegations against Melamed and Dwan specifically and acknowledges that neither doctor was responsible for the retained object.
