The details of Dolly Parton’s estate have not been publicly disclosed, but the country music legend made one intention unmistakably clear years before her death: she did not want her family left to resolve a financial and legal mess while grieving.

That philanthropic legacy was reflected in the family’s funeral request. Instead of sending flowers, mourners were encouraged to donate to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the literacy programme closely associated with the singer.
