Ken Jennings makes awkward slip-up as he’s called out by Jeopardy! fans
Ken Jennings was perhaps a little too casual with his answer when asked a question by a fan in a hilarious video shared by the official Jeopardy! Instagram account on Thursday
Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings stunned viewers with a not-so-family friendly answer to a question from an audience member.
The clip, shared by the official Jeopardy! Instagram account shows the 51-year-old game show host has a slight slip-up, using a slang term on camera when responding to a question about whether he still participates in bar trivia. Before hosting the show, Ken was a contestant, smashing multiple show records and taking home millions of dollars in earnings.
In the clip, a voice off-screen can be heard asking Ken, “Do you ever go to local trivia nights or bars and just like…” who jumps in and replies, “Just stunt on those h-es?” The shockingly casual answer, which he gave with a grin, was met with giggles from the studio audience.
The moment was shared on the official Jeopardy! Instagram with the caption, “Didn’t have this on your bingo card, did ya?”
The host of the popular quiz show explained, “I do not play much bar trivia, I have to say. It’s kind of an awkward situation. Like, it’s weird if I win. It’s weird if I lose. It’s like, nobody’s happy either way, I think.”
Fans rushed to the comments to point out an infamous moment in Jeopardy! history from when Ken was a contestant 20 years ago. One commenter wrote, “He meant to say rake, it’s fine,” while another added, “I believe it’s ‘stunt on those rakes’ Ken.” A third fan responded, “Whoaaaa! They teach you that in school in Utah, huh?”
During an episode from 2004, Ken was given the clue, “This term for a long-handled gardening tool that can also mean an immoral pleasure seeker.”
He buzzed in with the answer, “What’s a h-e?” which left then-host Alex Trebek stunned as the studio audience erupted in laughter. “Whoa! They teach you that in school in Utah, huh?”
The correct answer for the $200 question was ‘What is a rake?’ which didn’t matter in the end because the legendary player was up $14,800 while his competitors stood at -$600 and -$200. The hilariously awkward interaction became one of the most iconic moments on the show.
More fans chimed in with comments on the post, with one gushing, “Ken I literally could not love you more.” Another wrote, “Ok Ken I was unfamiliar with your game,” while a different fan quipped, “last thing I expected Ken to say for $300.”
Before he served as the host of the long-running game show, he broke the record for most consecutive wins with 74 triumphs in taking home the eye-watering sum of $2.5 million in winnings, the second-most in Jeopardy! history. In 2020, he won the Greatest of All Time tournament before taking over hosting duties in 2023 after beloved host Alex Trebek’s passing.
