Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s UK Return Was ‘A Family Decision’ — But Their Children May Be the Real Reason Behind It

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are preparing to return to the UK with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, but according to sources, the decision was not simply about Harry wanting to come home.

Instead, the move was reportedly made “as a family” — with their children playing an important part in the couple’s plans to reconnect with Britain and their father’s roots.

The Sussexes are expected to cross the Atlantic in the coming days. This time, however, their return could look very different from Harry’s previous trips home.

The couple are expected to bring both children with them, while their relationship with King Charles is reportedly improving and the family is understood to have a home base to return to.

Harry Wants Archie and Lilibet to Know Britain

Harry has spoken in the past about wanting his children to experience the country where he grew up.

Although Archie and Lilibet were able to visit the UK in July, a longer stay — combined with the possibility of attending British schools — could give them a much deeper connection to their father’s homeland.

A source close to the Sussexes told PEOPLE that Harry “never really stopped missing home” and still feels a strong connection to Britain.

“He’s missed that sense of connection and belonging. Britain is still home in many ways,” the source said.

For Harry, the return may therefore represent more than simply another visit. It could give his children an opportunity to understand a part of their father’s childhood and family history.

Meghan Reportedly Saw an Opportunity for Both Worlds

Earlier reports had suggested Meghan may not have been enthusiastic about returning to the UK with Harry.

But a source now described the decision differently, saying the choice to cross the Atlantic was “taken as a family.”

The move could allow Archie and Lilibet to experience both their American upbringing and their British heritage.

“Meghan feels very fortunate that they’re able to give Archie and Lilibet the opportunity to experience both worlds,” a Montecito insider said.

That family focus was also evident during the Sussexes’ recent visit to Althorp, where Harry and Meghan took Archie and Lilibet to Princess Diana’s grave.

For the children, it may have been their first opportunity to visit the final resting place of their late grandmother.

A source said Harry wants his children “to understand the world he grew up in and where their family comes from.”

King Charles Has Been Informed

The Sussexes’ plans initially prompted speculation over whether members of the Royal Family had been caught off guard.

However, reports indicated that King Charles had been informed about the move before it was publicly announced.

The BBC reported that the King was told about the plans on Sunday, while Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, had also been informed.

The reported communication comes as Harry’s relationship with his father appears to be moving into a less hostile phase following years of tension.

Where Will the Sussexes Stay?

While the family’s exact accommodation has not been confirmed, the Cotswolds and Northamptonshire have emerged as possible locations.

Their precise arrival date has also not been disclosed.

But with British school terms due to begin early next month, Harry and Meghan are expected to make the journey soon.

And with Archie and Lilibet now at the heart of the decision, this latest UK return could mark a very different chapter for the Sussex family.
