A “caring and incredibly kind” mother who was found dead inside a caravan at a Northamptonshire holiday park has been pictured as her devastated family paid tribute to a woman they said brought warmth and happiness to everyone around her.

Sue Lumsden was found dead after police were called to the holiday park in Sywell during the early hours of Monday morning.

Officers launched a murder investigation following the discovery, and a 72-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with her death.

The man remained in police custody as detectives continued their investigation.

Family remembers Sue as a loving mum and Nanny Sue

Sue’s family have now released a photograph of her and spoken publicly about the devastating loss.

In a heartfelt tribute, they described her as a beautiful person both inside and out, remembering her as “fun, bubbly, caring and incredibly kind.”

They said Sue had a natural ability to make people around her smile and loved to laugh.

“She loved to laugh and had a special way of making those around her smile,” the family said.

Her relatives explained that they deliberately chose the photograph released publicly because it reflected Sue’s personality and the happiness she brought to those closest to her.

“We have chosen this photo because it captures her happy spirit and the person she truly was — full of love, laughter and life,” they said.

Sue was not only a much-loved mother but also a cherished grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

“Above all, she was a wonderful Mum and a much-loved Nanny Sue, Sister, Auntie and friend,” her family said.

They added that she was deeply loved by her family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

‘She was truly special’

The family said Sue’s kindness and loving personality would remain part of the memories shared by those who knew her.

“Her kindness, laughter and loving nature will always be remembered,” they said.

“Mum will be missed more than words can say, but the love she gave, the laughter she shared and the memories we made together will remain in our hearts forever.”

They concluded: “She was truly special and will always be loved.”

Police appeal for information

Northamptonshire Police said the 72-year-old suspect remained in custody while detectives worked to establish the circumstances surrounding Sue’s death.

Detective Chief Inspector Ryan Catling described the incident as extremely tragic and said specialist officers were supporting Sue’s next of kin.

“This is an extremely tragic incident in which a woman has sadly lost her life, and our thoughts are with her family, friends and loved ones at what will be an incredibly difficult and distressing time,” he said.

He also appealed for the family’s privacy as they dealt with the loss.

“Our investigation is moving at pace, and we are committed to securing all available evidence and doing everything we can to get justice,” Catling said.

Police warned that there would be an increased presence in the area while enquiries continued.

Although an arrest had been made, detectives urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the arrested man has not been convicted of any offence.
