  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly considering issuing a public apology to King Charles III to rebuild trust within the royal family.

When it comes to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s relationship with the royal family, the couple may soon have a lot to say.

Multiple sources told journalist Rob Shuter for a Thursday, August 6, report in his Naughty But Nice Substack that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are considering issuing a public apology to King Charles III.

“Everyone agrees trust has to be rebuilt,” a source told Shuter. “The challenge is finding language that gives the King the respect he wants without forcing Harry and Meghan to walk back every interview, documentary, or page of Spare.”

Charles, 77, and Queen Camilla, 79, recently hosted the Sussexes on July 10 at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire, England.

Until then, it had been years since Harry and Meghan’s children — son Prince Archie, 7, and daughter Princess Lilibet, 5 — met with their grandfather in person.

Harry, 41, and Meghan, 45, publicly stepped back from the monarchy and gave up their senior royal duties in 2020, when they moved to California. And it appears their relationship with most of the royal family has been on thin ice ever since.

While Shuter’s insiders claim that a statement from Meghan and Harry has been discussed, a palace source pointed out, “An apology doesn’t have to be a surrender.”

“It’s an acknowledgment that this family feud went too far,” the palace source added. “Charles wants peace — but he also wants respect. This could be the first real step toward both.”

Though Harry was back in the United Kingdom, it appears as though he had no communication with his estranged brother, Prince William, and sister-in-law, Princess Kate.

It’s unclear whether or not a potential apology would also include mention to the Prince and Princess of Wales, both 44.

Still, an insider said, “This isn’t about Harry and Meghan admitting they were wrong about everything. It’s about acknowledging that the past five years have caused enormous pain.”

“The debate now is over what an apology should say,” the insider added, “and, just as importantly, what it shouldn’t.”
